Standard self-adhesive paper is white paper with an adhesive layer on the underside, protected by silicone-coated backing paper. It is used for printing labels, stickers, markings and informational materials that are then applied to various surfaces. The range includes ADHOC and RAFLATAC self-adhesive paper with offset (matte) and semi-gloss finishes, available in scored and unscored versions and in formats ranging from A4 to 50×70cm.
What Is Standard Self-Adhesive Paper
Standard self-adhesive paper consists of three layers: a top paper layer used for printing, an adhesive layer and a silicone-coated backing liner that protects the adhesive from premature contact and is removed before application.
The term "standard" means that it is conventional white self-adhesive paper - as opposed to coloured, transparent, metallic or specialist self-adhesive materials, such as waterproof film. Standard self-adhesive paper is the most popular and versatile type of self-adhesive material.
Standard self-adhesive paper is suitable for offset, digital and laser printing. It is used to produce product labels, informational stickers, warehouse markings, address labels, promotional stickers, price tags, barcodes and QR codes.
Standard Self-Adhesive Paper - Types of Finish
Standard Offset Self-Adhesive Paper (Matte)
Offset self-adhesive paper has a matte, uncoated surface similar to standard office paper. It is a classic, versatile finish suitable for most applications.
Characteristics: matte surface with no gloss; good ink absorption; natural paper whiteness; easy to write on with a pen or marker.
Advantages: no glare when reading; can be written on by hand; lower price than coated papers; versatile applications.
Applications: informational and descriptive labels; warehouse markings; address labels; text-based stickers; price tags; labels for binders and folders.
Standard Semi-Gloss Self-Adhesive Paper
Semi-gloss self-adhesive paper has a coated surface with a subtle sheen - a finish between matte and glossy. It is a popular choice for labels requiring better print quality.
Characteristics: semi-gloss, satin surface; improved reproduction of colours and graphics; smooth surface; higher whiteness.
Advantages: better colour reproduction than offset paper; sharper printing of graphics and photos; professional appearance; moderate sheen without strong glare.
Applications: product labels with graphics; promotional stickers; packaging labels; promotional labels; labels featuring a company logo.
Standard Gloss Self-Adhesive Paper
Gloss self-adhesive paper has a coated surface with a high-gloss finish. It provides the most vivid colours and the most striking appearance.
Characteristics: high-gloss surface; the best colour reproduction; intense, saturated colours; an eye-catching appearance.
Advantages: the highest quality for colour printing; a striking and professional finish; vivid colours and strong contrast.
Applications: premium product labels; advertising and promotional stickers; labels for luxury packaging; stickers with high-quality graphics.
Standard Self-Adhesive Paper - Scored vs Unscored
Scored Self-Adhesive Paper
Scored self-adhesive paper has cuts in the paper and adhesive layers that make it easier to remove labels from the backing. The cuts divide the sheet into individual labels of a specific shape and size.
Standard scoring: A4 and A3 sheets are most commonly scored around the full format - the entire sheet forms a single label with a cut around the edges, making it easier to remove the whole sheet from the backing.
Advantages of scoring: easy label removal; precise edges; faster application; reduced risk of damaging the label during removal.
Applications: labels for quick application; small-batch sticker production; office label printing.
Unscored Self-Adhesive Paper
Unscored self-adhesive paper has no cuts - it is a continuous sheet of self-adhesive paper. The cuts, or label die-cuts, are made later during the label production process.
Advantages of unscored sheets: freedom to design labels in any shape and size; the option to die-cut custom shapes; better suited to offset printing and industrial production.
Applications: printing companies and custom label production; die-cutting labels in non-standard shapes; high-volume offset printing; industrial production.

Standard Self-Adhesive Paper - Applications
Product Labels
Self-adhesive paper is a basic material used to produce product labels - from food and cosmetics to industrial goods. Labels include the product name, ingredients, expiry date, barcodes and other required information.
Advertising and Promotional Stickers
Advertising stickers featuring company logos, promotional slogans and graphics are printed on semi-gloss or gloss self-adhesive paper for an eye-catching appearance.
Address and Shipping Labels
Labels containing recipient and sender addresses, parcel barcodes and logistics information. Offset paper is sufficient for this application.
Warehouse and Logistics Markings
Labels used to mark racks, shelves, containers and pallets in warehouses. They require good legibility and durability - offset paper with permanent adhesive.
Price Tags
Price tags attached to products in shops. They can be printed on offset paper for adding information by hand or on semi-gloss paper with the price already printed.
Barcodes and QR Codes
Labels with barcodes and QR codes are used for product identification, shipment tracking and inventory systems. They require good print quality to ensure reliable scanning.
Office Labels
Labels for binders, folders, drawers and other office organisation purposes. A4 offset paper is the standard choice.
Standard Self-Adhesive Paper - Printing Techniques
Laser Printing
Laser printing is the most commonly used method for printing labels in offices and for small print runs. Self-adhesive paper for laser printing must withstand the high temperature used to fuse the toner, approximately 200°C. ADHOC papers and RAFLATAC Lasersilk are suitable for laser printing.
Inkjet Printing
Inkjet printing is used for producing colour labels in small quantities. Offset paper absorbs ink well, while semi-gloss paper provides better colour quality.
Offset Printing
Offset printing is used for producing large quantities of labels in printing companies. The 43×61cm and 50×70cm formats are designed for offset printing presses. Unscored papers allow labels to be die-cut into any shape after printing.
Digital Printing
Professional digital presses, such as HP Indigo, are used for medium-volume label production with personalisation. They combine offset-quality printing with the flexibility of digital printing.
Standard Self-Adhesive Paper - Choosing a Finish
Offset (matte) - choose it when: the labels will mainly contain text; you need to add information by hand; a lower price is important; the labels are informational rather than promotional.
Semi-gloss - choose it when: the labels include graphics, logos or photographs; you need better colour print quality; the labels represent your brand; you want a balance between quality and price.
Gloss - choose it when: the labels need to be as eye-catching as possible; you want the most vivid colours; the labels are part of premium marketing materials.
Standard Self-Adhesive Paper - Choosing Scored vs Unscored
Scored - choose it when: you are printing ready-to-use labels for immediate application; you need easy removal from the backing; you are printing in an office using a laser or inkjet printer.
Unscored - choose it when: you are producing labels in custom shapes; you are printing in an offset printing company; you need greater design flexibility; you die-cut the labels after printing.
