Satin Paper

Smooth surface, vivid colors, professional glare-free prints

Satin paper is a high-quality uncoated paper with a smooth, silky surface - an intermediate finish between matte and glossy. Thanks to this property, satin paper does not reflect significant amounts of light on the one hand (which could cause unpleasant glare when reading), while on the other hand the print is not fully matte - the colors displayed have greater depth, edges are sharp, and even in black-and-white printing, higher contrast is visible.

In this category, you will find three recognized brands of satin papers for digital printing: Color Copy (Mondi), DCP (Clairefontaine), and Biancoflash Premium Digi (Favini). All are available in a wide range of weights from 90g to 400g, in A4, A3, and SRA3 formats.

What is satin paper?

Satin paper is an uncoated paper with a specially finished surface that combines the advantages of matte and glossy paper. The name comes from satin - a fabric with a distinctive, subtle sheen. Satin paper is mainly characterized by being opaque and smooth on both sides.

Satin vs matte vs glossy surface

Matte paper (offset paper) - uncoated, rough surface, absorbs ink very well, suitable for writing on, but colors are less saturated.

Satin paper - uncoated but smoothed, smooth glare-free surface, vivid colors with good contrast, suitable for writing on, ideal for digital printing.

Glossy paper (coated paper) - coated with a layer of kaolin clay, very smooth and slippery, maximum color saturation but with glare, not suitable for writing on.

Satin paper is therefore a compromise - it offers better color reproduction than offset paper, but without the irritating glare of coated paper. It is smoother and of higher quality than offset paper, but not as slippery as coated paper.

Properties of satin paper

High whiteness

Color Copy and DCP satin papers are characterized by a high degree of whiteness - approximately 170 CIE. The high whiteness of the layer guarantees very good printability and contrast. The ideal shade of white makes it possible to preserve maximum color depth and graphic detail - there are no color distortions in print.

Smooth surface

Satin paper has an extremely smooth surface that ensures exceptionally sharp and detailed image reproduction. Its very smooth and uniform structure allows toner to be distributed evenly across the sheet. The satin coating guarantees ideal ink distribution and preserves image sharpness and detail.

No glare

An undeniable advantage of satin paper is that it does not create the glare that appears on glossy (coated) paper. In addition, it offers high saturation, excellent color reproduction, and top-level contrast.

Proper absorption

Satin paper is characterized by an appropriate level of ink absorption, so prints are always vivid and intense, without color blurring. The increased paper weight ensures that the ink is absorbed evenly and does not leave streaks, while the sheets do not warp under its weight.

Stiffness and durability

Coated papers (including satin papers) are always stiffer than uncoated papers of the same weight. Satin paper is a more expensive material, but it provides a much longer useful life for printed materials. The paper does not yellow and retains its shape for a long time.

Writable surface

Unlike coated paper, satin paper can be written on with a pen. This is an important feature when producing forms, certificates, or invitations that require manual completion.

Applications of satin paper

Satin paper significantly enhances the status and prestige of a print. It is perceived as elegant and is also pleasant to the touch. It works well not only in commercial or office applications, but also in artistic or design projects.

Advertising and marketing materials

Satin paper in weights from 90g to 300g is recommended for printing leaflets, folded leaflets, company catalogs, saddle-stitched brochures, or letterhead. It is ideal for flyers, advertising folders, and catalogs - especially those with charts, reports, and graphics.

Business cards

For business cards, we recommend papers with a weight of 300g and above. Satin paper in 300g or 350g is a fairly thick material that guarantees appropriate sheet stiffness. Business cards on satin paper look professional and elegant.

Invitations and occasional stationery

Satin paper can be used to produce invitations, business cards, and wedding or business place cards. The matte surface (finished with satin paper) is ideal for printing invitations and greeting cards.

Diplomas, certificates, and attestations

Printing important business documents - certificates, attestations, and diplomas. Satin paper in 200g or 250g is already a fairly thick material, ideal for documents whose importance and prestige we want to emphasize through the quality of the material.

Photography

Photo printing - also double-sided. Satin paper provides better reproduction of colors, details, and depth compared to standard copy paper. Its surface reflects light in a way that creates the impression of higher quality in photographic prints.

Menus and hotel materials

Restaurant menus, wine lists, and informational materials for hotels. Satin paper is resistant to external factors and maintains an elegant appearance over a long period of use.

Presentations and reports

Company presentations, annual reports, and commercial offers. Satin paper in 160g has slightly greater stiffness than the most commonly used printer papers and is suitable for printing presentations and documents of a somewhat higher rank.

Satin paper weights

Satin paper is available in weights from 90g to 400g. The higher the weight, the stiffer the paper. Depending on the weight, it is packed in 125, 250, or 500 sheets.

90-100g - letterhead, correspondence, brochures. An attractive alternative to standard 80g paper.

120-160g - leaflets, presentations, folders. The 160g weight ensures that the print does not show through to the other side.

200-250g - catalogs, covers, invitations. Appropriate stiffness for higher-ranking documents.

280-350g - business cards, diplomas, certificates. Professional stiffness and a prestigious look.

400g - album covers, exclusive packaging. Maximum stiffness.

Satin paper formats

A4 format (210×297mm)

Standard office format. Ideal for prints on office printers - business cards (for trimming), invitations, certificates, letterhead, and presentations.

A3 format (297×420mm)

Double A4 format. For larger projects - A3 posters, diplomas, restaurant menus, advertising materials, and catalog covers.

SRA3 format (320×450mm)

A printing format with extra bleed margins. SRA3 is intended for professional digital printing where bleeds (trimming margins) are required. It allows an A3 design to be printed with full bleed and trimmed to the target format.

Color Copy - Mondi

Color Copy is a leading paper for digital color printing, available on the market since 1989. For over 35 years, it has become an essential element of every digital printing project - from business documents and marketing materials to creative products.

Characteristics

Color Copy is specially designed to meet the requirements of digital printing and guarantees faithful, vivid colors and excellent print results every time. Compatibility

Certificates and ecology

Color Copy was the first digital printing paper with FSC certification and Cradle to Cradle Certified Bronze. It meets all EU Ecolabel criteria. Mondi has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 45% since 2004. When purchasing Color Copy A4 and A3, Mondi offsets CO2 emissions for you - the paper has been carbon neutral since 2010.

DCP - Clairefontaine

DCP is a high-quality uncoated satin paper produced by the French company Clairefontaine. It is available in two colors: white and cream (ecru/ivory), offering additional creative possibilities.

Characteristics

Clairefontaine DCP is a high-quality uncoated satin paper. DCP guarantees exceptional contrast and a very wide range of printed colors. Its very smooth and uniform structure allows toner to be distributed evenly across the sheet. Its advantages include increased stiffness and a special surface finish - as a result, print reproduction is highly detailed and colors remain saturated.

Cream version (ecru)

DCP is the only satin paper in the range available in a cream shade (ivory/ecru). The warm ivory tone gives prints an elegant, classic character - ideal for wedding invitations, diplomas, certificates, and exclusive correspondence.

Compatibility

Satin papers from the DCP series are intended for digital printing, including laser and inkjet printers. They are perfect for both color and black-and-white prints. Satin paper in every available version can be cut, glued, folded, and processed in other ways. Due to its high smoothness, it is excellent as a substrate for digital foil stamping.

It is produced using environmentally friendly technology and holds FSC and EU Ecolabel certifications.

Biancoflash Premium Digi - Favini

Biancoflash is the original brand of calendered paper from the Italian Favini mill, synonymous with whiteness and high quality. The name comes from the Italian words for white (bianco) and flash - dazzling white paper.

Characteristics

Biancoflash is a top-quality uncoated paper with exceptionally high whiteness, ideal for digital printing. Biancoflash Premium is a brighter paper with excellent smoothness. Print quality is outstanding - ink does not remain only on the surface (as it does on glossy paper), nor does it soak in too deeply and lose definition. It provides an optimal surface for a perfectly balanced result.

Premium Digi version

The Premium Digi version is specially prepared for digital printing and is HP Indigo certified. Biancoflash works with laser and inkjet printers, as well as all devices using dry toner technology.

Biancoflash paper is a versatile material for high-quality design and printing. Applications include books, brochures, catalogs, packaging, stationery, calendars, menus, and hotel stationery sets. It is also used for advertising folders, presentations, manuals, leaflets, calendars, and business cards.

Biancoflash is FSC certified. The paper is certified for HP Indigo printing.
